We have fed a Biologically Appropraiate, raw diet for over 25 years Countless generations have thrived on it
OUR BEGINNER'S DIET
For those of you new to raw feeding, this may sound much too difficult. Relax! Our recipe couldn't be easier! The supplement is ordered online, and the meat can be purchased online (see: Raw Feeding Links) or when you are doing your own grocery shopping. No more extra trips to the pet store. No guess work is needed. Five minutes prep time and you will have nutritious food for a week or for a month. It can't get any easier.
Basic Recipe:
2 lbs. ground turkey (our kittens are raised on turkey, but after an acclimation period, feel free to use other ground meat)
1-1/2 cups water
1/2 cup Know Better Cat Food (KBCF with chicken liver)
Combine water and KBCF. Mix into the ground turkey.
Refrigerate or freeze immediately. Depending on your cat, this will yield up to a week's worth of food.
Premade: Another Alternative
Premade raw food is as easy as it gets! Just thaw and put it in a bowl! See Raw Feeding Links for brands we endorse.
Keeping Their Teeth Clean
Meals of chicken gizzards, stew meat, chicken necks or wings will clean their teeth. If your cat will not eat these chewy foods, feeding our Basic Recipe in nearly frozen, mouse size chunks, will do a very effective job of cleaning their teeth. Start them right away as kittens, but don't be surprised if they play with it before they eat it.
Still Unsure?
For those of you who are still on the fence, I encourage you to continue to research. You can begin with our Raw Feeding Links. The dog world is light years ahead of the Cat Fancy in feeding a species appropriate diet. There are many canine sites related to raw feeding. You will find reassurance that this is both healthy and safe. Just remember that dogs and cats have different nutritional requirements. Do not base your cat's raw diet on a diet designed for dogs!
Best of the Worst
If you are still worried, begin by feeding your cat a healthier processed diet. Remember tuna is not appropriate to feed your cat. Tuna is deficient in Vitamin E and will cause Steatitis. To compound the problem, many cats find the taste addicting.
Dry food is the worst choice you can make. Canned food has the same moisture content as found in their natural diet and will help keep your cat from developing conditions such as CRF. Compare labels! Look for no grain and the highest meat content available. Nature's Logic is our canned food recommendation.
